Neighborhood Tree Program

STEP 1: The purpose of the Neighborhood Tree Program is to assist you with selecting and planting a tree (or trees) at your property in the Ojai Valley. Ojai Trees has a team of volunteer Neighborhood Foresters that will be happy to assist you with this process! The first step is for you to contact us and give us your name, address and telephone numbers so we can make an appointment with you. Let us know a little about what you have in mind tree-wise as well. Send us an e-mail at trees@ojaitrees.org and we'll get back to you within a day or two to make an appointment.

STEP 2: A Neighborhood Forester, or one of our resident volunteer tree experts, will meet you at your property to help choose the right tree for the right place. We look for things like overhead power lines and underground uitility lines to make sure there will be no future conflicts. We help you choose a species that will flourish and contribute to the Community Forest. If you are satisfied with the selection, the Neighborhood Forester will flag the location and assist you in filling out the Neighborhood Tree Donation Form. Please make your donation to Ojai Trees at that time. If you wish to donate by credit card, see the form below.

STEP 3: The tree you donated will be planted by a team of Ojai Trees volunteers at one of our planting events. The tree (or trees) will be delivered Thursday or Friday before planting date. The volunteer planting crew will arrive between 8:30 and 11:00 AM on planting date. If you would like to help us plant the tree, please let the Planting Supervisor know. It's more fun to plant with friends than doing it alone!

Terms of Donation:

1. Donor agrees to water and maintain tree after delivery by Ojai Trees
2. In case of rain-out, Ojai Trees will return and plant tree at our earliest opportunity.
3. Ojai Trees is not responsible for damage or theft of materials (tree, stakes, ties, or amendment) after delivery to Donor.
4. Donor agrees to indemnify Ojai Trees for damages or losses due to Ojai Trees’ activities.
5. Agreement to plant tree is based on assumption of 18” deep topsoil. If hardpan, rock or subgrade obstacles are encountered, Ojai Trees volunteers will make their best effort to plant the tree. If they are unable to plant tree, Donor assumes responsibility for planting tree.
6. Suggested donation amounts for trees are based on market conditions and availability. Donors are welcome to exceed the suggested amount to support our work and make trees available to others who may not be able to donate.
